Breville BOV800XL Accessories

05.05.2014 by Amy //

These accessories work great in the Breville BOV800XL toaster oven!

If you are looking for Breville BOV800XL accessories, you are in luck! Of all the toaster ovens that I have reviewed, the BOV800XL model is the one that has the most accessories made specifically for it by the manufacturer.

The BOV800XL is Breville’s top of the line smart oven. Breville clearly believes in this product because they have created several accessories that are meant to help you get the most from this machine.

I’m going to be honest with you. Not every Breville accessory is made with the same standard of quality as their toaster ovens. Therefore, I am also including third party accessories that will fit in the BOV800XL toaster oven, all of which I own and use in my BOV800XL.

Baking Pan

*

Breville includes a baking pan but it is of very poor quality. The nonstick stops being nonstick after just a few uses, and it is very easily scratched. I got rid of the Breville baking pan and bought a different one.

When I looked for a replacement baking pan, I didn’t want one with a nonstick coating because I didn’t want to worry about scratching the surface. I also didn’t want it to be made of aluminum. That limited me to steel or porcelain coated pans.

The pan that I bought is made by Granite Ware * and has a porcelain coating. The pan measures 8″ x 11″, which is a bit smaller than I would like it to be, but it works beautifully. The dark surface absorbs heat so it heats up quickly.I bake all kinds of things on my Granite Ware baking pan, from frozen biscuits to leftovers to frozen chicken wings. This baking pan gets used almost daily.

My favorite aspect of Granite Ware products is that you can safely cut food on them. I don’t ever have to worry about scratching the surface, and they are also very easy to clean.

Broiler Pan

*

Breville includes a nonstick broiler pan and rack with the BOV800XL, but I hate it. The nonstick surface starts sticking after just a few uses, and it flakes off. I got rid of the one made by Breville and bought a stainless steel broiler pan made by Nopro *.

The perforated top for the broiler pan that I use looks very odd, but it works well. However, I use the wire rack from the roaster that I have (and is listed below) as the broiler portion of this pan. I’ll share a picture of what I do below when I discuss the roaster.

The material is stainless steel so you don’t have to worry about scratching the surface like you do with nonstick surfaces. I use the pan portion of this broiler for cooking things that can be messy, like BBQ chicken wings, and use it as a broiler for things like chicken and steak.

Cutting Board

*

The Breville bamboo cutting board is one of the most popular accessories for the BOV800XL toaster oven. It is made to sit on the top of the oven when not in use, which also gives it a second role. If you want, you can place the cutting board on top of the toaster oven, then place pretty much anything you want on top of the cutting board.

The board * is thick and has rubber feet on the bottom that it will prevent the top of the board from getting hot. This means that you can either use the cutting board as a cutting board, or as an insulated exterior cover so you can set items on top of the toaster oven, decorative or otherwise. You can even use this board to store the pizza pan and broiling rack on top of so that these items won’t scratch the exterior of the machine.

I do not own this accessory so have no personal opinion of it. What I can tell you is that the reviews are overwhelmingly positive for the cutting board. One person went so far as to say that this is pretty much an essential accessory.

Pizza Crisper

*

Breville made a pizza crisper, which looks a lot like a pizza pan except that the bottom is full of holes. The holes allow air to flow over both the top and bottom of a pizza, and the result is a wonderfully crisp crust.

The crisper is coated with nonstick material and will cook up to a 13″ pizza. Unlike the pizza pan that comes with the BOV800XL, this is a highly rated item. I do not own the pizza crisper, but am seriously considering getting one. I truly wish Breville included this with their toaster oven, instead of the pizza pan.

You can use this crisper * for more than just pizza. I found that people use it to cook french fries, garlic toast, and to reheat leftovers. Basically, you can use this any time you want to heat or cook something that should be crispy. Just remember that you shouldn’t cut your pizza on the crisper or you will damage the nonstick coating.

*

Pizza Pan

*

You can cook pizza that measures up to 13″ in this machine, so it only makes sense that Breville created a pizza pan that fits perfectly inside. The problem is, the pan they made is junk. I own the Breville BOV800XL smart oven and agree with all the negative reviews about Breville’s nonstick pizza pan.

I got rid of Breville’s pizza pan and replaced it with this 13 inch stainless steel pan * which is made by Maxam. I love it! Perhaps the best part about this pan is that I can leave the cooked pizza on the pan to cut and not worry about damaging it.

You can cook more than just pizza on this pan. I’ve used mine for a variety of foods, from chicken wings to biscuits to leftovers. I’ve even made pancakes in my Breville BOV800XL on this pizza pan!

*

Here’s a little tip: You can store this pan underneath the BOV800XL, which is where I keep mine.

I keep my Maxam stainless steel pizza pan under my Breville BOV800XL

Pizza Stone

*

Breville made a pizza stone for the BOV800XL that is very highly rated. Pizza stones do a much better job at crisping pizza crust than traditional pizza pans.

I haven’t used a pizza stone in my Breville, but I found that people who own it love this 13 inch stone *. People use it to cook pizzas up to 13″ as well as artisan and pita breads.

Using a pizza stone is a bit different than a pizza pan. Unlike a pan, you should not wash a stone. The dirtier it gets, the better it will work. You will want to clean the cheese and other drippings from the surface of the stone, but do not use soap or attempt to wash off the food that is embedded in the stone. Grease will build up within the pores of the stone over time and improve the way the stone bakes pizza and bread.

*

Roaster

*

The Everything Roaster is my favorite of all my Breville BOV800XL accessories. This is the roaster that I own, which is made by Granite Ware * and includes a pan, cover, and wire rack. The roaster is large enough to hold an entire chicken as well as vegetables. And, yes, it fits perfectly inside the BOV800XL toaster oven when the lid is on.

The chicken that I make in this roaster is the best chicken I’ve ever made! The secret is to add 1-2 cups of water or broth to the bottom of the roaster and cook the chicken with the lid on. The result is chicken that is incredibly moist and delicious!

Tip!

Earlier I said that I combine the wire rack from the roaster with my broiler pan. It just so happens that the roaster rack fits perfectly on the top of the broiler pan, and it is easier to clean than the one that comes with the pan.

Here is how the broiler pan looks with the rack that it came with:

This is a picture of my broiler pan for my Breville BOV800XL toaster oven.

And here is how the broiler pan looks with the wire rack from the Granite Ware roaster – you can see how the lip around the edge holds the rack in place perfectly and it's much easier to clean the rack than the top that comes with this pan:

I am enjoying reading your reviews and articles.

I am considering buying a Breville Smart Oven, most likely the mini one/

What do you use to cook casseroles? I understand that Pyrex,Corning Ware and the like are not recommend.

What do you use to cook frozen dinners? The frozen dinners like Healthy Choice say not to cook in a toaster oven. Breville told me that thier Smart Ovens are considered toaster ovens.

If you have take-out dinner (meat and three)what can be used to reheat? I have some heavy white china plates with compartments that would be ideal but they are not marked in any way. I think Breville will say use only what they provide and to check with manfacturer of product. I have not found anything so far.

Sorry that this got so long. I hope that you will answer some of my questions.

    Thank You,
    Joe

Please accept my apologies for not responding right away. My in-laws were in town and they kept me busy this weekend.

In all honestly, I’ve never cooked a casserole, in a toaster oven or regular oven. I don’t know why other than it simply hasn’t occurred to me. But if I did, I would not use a glass container because you are correct that it is not recommended. Food is cooked much closer to the heating coils in a toaster oven and the heat can cause glass to crack or shatter.

If I was to make a casserole in my toaster oven I would use my Granite Ware roaster, which you can see here. It is large enough to cook a casserole and a lot of other things, including a whole chicken. I’ve used my Granite Ware roaster many times in my Breville and it always cooks beautifully.

I usually cook frozen dinners in my microwave because it is faster, but there are times when I prefer to cook them in the oven, like lasagna. I admit that I have cooked frozen dinners in my Breville, even though it says we shouldn’t, and I haven’t had a problem. But, I also know that this could be problematic because the food and plastic container is closer to the heating elements than in a regular oven and the plastic could melt. I am NOT recommending that anyone else do this so please do so at your own risk.

As for reheating, I’ve done that many times in my Breville. I have a Granite Ware baking pan (see the above link) and reheat food on that. I really love the Granite Ware because it is incredibly durable and versatile.

      I hope that helps.

No apology necessary. Thank you very much for your helpful reply.

I bought the mini smart oven today.Amazon has a lot of Granite Ware and some of it might fit in the mini oven.

You might not find a Granite Ware roaster that fits the mini but hopefully you can find something that will work for casseroles. I think the Granite Ware baking pan will fit your toaster oven but make sure to take measurements instead of taking my word for it since I have the largest of the Breville toaster ovens. Enjoy your new toaster oven!

I bought this oven and love it, love it. However, I tried to buy the granite ware roaster twice from Amazon and both had defects. The coating was chipped badly and looks to be a good place for rust to set in quickly. Thank goodness Amazon has a good return policy. Now checking other reviews on the roaster, I see others are having the same issue. That is sad, as I would have loved to have that set. I have several big sets of the roasters for my normal oven, and had them for years. guess this workmanship has gone down hill. Sad indeed.

      Karen,

This happened to me with one of the Granite Ware items I bought. Fortunately, Amazon was great about it and sent me a new one which was in perfect condition. I’m sorry that your experience was a little different than mine with the Granite Ware, which is a shame because their products can be excellent and put up with a lot of abuse, including knives cutting directly on them.

I have had two Smart Ovens and love them. I do everything in them, including baking in Pyrex. I just use the bottom rack–no problem. It is my second oven in every way.

Thank you for this post. It’s too bad Breville’s included pans are just junk! What a shame to save a few dollars. Keep up the good work.

Thank you! And, I agree. The toaster oven is great. We’ve had ours for 3 1/2 years, use it almost daily, and it works just as well today as it did when we bought it.

I bought the biggest and best Breville Smart Oven last year before relatives arrived for the holidays. I got no further than removing the instruction booklet from the box. It said that elements in the oven were viewed as carcinogenic (causes cancer) and listed the CA Law number. CA appears to be the most vigilant about issues like this. I did not want to cook in a convection oven that might cause cancer. Why can’t the industry get it together to use substances that are not harmful? Bed Bath and Beyond graciously honored their return policy. I can only think it is the walls of the oven and the oven pans with similar surface that are the culprits. Breville, let’s kick it up a notch. You make a great product, now make on that’s not going to kill us!

I Googled this concern since I was just about to buy this. This is what I found:
      http://www.debralynndadd.com/q-a/breville-glass-kettle-and-california-proposition-65-warning/
I had been looking for an electric glass kettle and finally found the Breville the Crystal Clear 1800W Schott Glass Kettle. When I opened the box it had the following warning: “California Proposition 65 Applicable to California Residents Only This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.” I called Breville to find out what chemicals in this glass kettle could possibly cause cancer, etc. The answer I received is that they put this notice on all their packaging for all their products to meet California standards, whether or not the product contains any of the hazardous chemicals. The person I spoke with didn’t know whether any part of the kettle contained any hazardous chemicals but it should be OK. I got the same response from William Sonoma where I purchased the kettle. Is there any way that you know of to find out more specifically the possible chemicals this individual kettle may have? Or should I just return it?

That’s a tough situation. If I were you and I was worried about potential residue, and I couldn’t confirm what the materials were, I would return it. Better to be safe than sorry, especially since the manufacturer hasn’t provided the information you asked.

We just got the Braville smart oven air and I came across your site which is very helpful. Have you found an insulated cookie sheet that will fit inside? I only use the insulated Airbake type cookie sheets as we like our cookies soft and chewy

No, I have not come across an Airbake type cookie sheet small enough for my toaster oven. I’ve got one for my oven so am very familiar with how well they work. That’s a great idea for someone to create!

I am so glad that I stumbled upon your helpful tips. I’ve been wanting to replace my original Breville oven pans with safer ones. I looked in all of the stores but couldn’t find any that would fit. I’ve ordered the stainless steel pizza pan and the baking pan. I hope to order more of your suggestions in the future.

    Thanks Again!

I love Breville products, completely satisfied with them. I used most of their products, and they were good except for Carafe.
